Charcuterie is a current trend that you will see on menus. In farm-to-table restaurants where traditional meals are presented, charcuterie is particularly well-liked. The question that follows is, then, What is Charcuterie? And Why It’s Important for Your Upcoming Party
LET’S DISCUSS Charcuterie!
The preparation of meat products like bacon, salami, ham, sausage, terrines, galantines, ballotines, pâtés, and confit is known as charcuterie. A Charcutier is a person who prepares charcuterie. So why is charcuterie now so popular?
Charcuterie is a culinary technique that was born out of necessity, just like many other traditional meals that are currently in vogue; it was how meats were preserved prior to the invention of refrigeration. Charcuterie has been revitalized and elevated by the traditional food movement, just as pickles, fermented vegetables, home-brewed beer, broth, and kombucha. And in my honest opinion, the position deserves to be front and center.
ASSUMPTION WHEN PLACING A CHARCUTERIE ORDER AT A RESTAURANT:
Charcuterie is typically served in restaurants as an appetizer on a board with artisan cheese and almonds.
FOR A PARTY
There are no regulations, which is one of the best things about serving charcuterie at your own gathering. You can add fresh or dried fruits, gourmet breads and crackers, olives, spreads like honey, preserves, or jams, or you can make it as simple as you like (maybe just the cured meats)! Alternatively, you can go all out with a giant platter or keep it on a tight budget by bringing out a tiny plate.
THE HOLIDAYS ARE PERFECT FOR CHARCUTERIE:
A charcuterie board is simple to put together, making it ideal for holiday celebrations. Simply go to the speciality section of your local grocery store, grab something that looks fantastic, and set it on a board. Why would you cook anything else when this is so simple and delicious?
FOR MEALS!
It’s not necessary to limit charcuterie to the appetizer category. I used to tell my husband every time I ordered charcuterie at a restaurant, “If this simply comes with a salad, it would be the ultimate easy lunch.”
