Making it online: Hosting and Domains

What is a domain name?

To reach your website, internet users type your domain name into the address bar of their browsers. Simply said, your domain name will act as the address for your website. A more comprehensive defense: A global network of cables connects a massive network of computers collectively known as the Internet. The computers on this network can all talk to one another. An IP address is assigned to each machine as a way of identification. An array of integers is used to identify a particular computer on the internet. A common IP address looks like this: 66.249.66.1

It’s getting harder and harder to recall this IP address. Think about using these numbers to visit your preferred websites. Domain names were established to solve this problem. A long string of digits no longer has to be entered in order to visit a website. Instead, you can get to it simply typing a straightforward domain name into the browser’s address box. I’ll use reylo.net as an example

What Exactly Is Hosting?

In its broadest definition, hosting refers to a service in which storage space and computer power are made available to a person or business so they can host and maintain one or more websites and related services. Hosting need not be IP-based, although in the vast majority of cases, web-based services are used to make a website or web service accessible from anywhere in the world via the Internet.

Other terms for hosting include web hosting and website hosting. A key service that has contributed to the growth and development of the Internet is hosting. The major provider of hosting is a service provider that builds a specialized backend computing infrastructure. The website owner or developer uses the infrastructure to host the website after uploading the source code. Each website has a unique domain name that identifies it, as well as logically assigned Webspace and storage.

A website is accessed through the Internet when the domain name is entered in a Web browser. Hosting has developed into a number of formats, including shared hosting, dedicated hosting, and cloud hosting, as a result of technological and delivery model advancements. Hosting can also refer to data/storage hosting, application/software hosting, and hosting for IT services, in addition to hosting for websites. With virtualization and cloud computing, which enable an additional degree of intricacy and flexibility, the line is also blurred.
