Where to travel in 2023 to get the greatest value for your money is listed below.
Want to travel without becoming bankrupt? One of the top travel search engines in the world, Kayak, published a list of the most affordable destinations this year.
Kayak looked at searches for flights from July 2022 through November 2022 for travel in 2023 to discover the most cost-effective locations. The top 100 locations with the lowest average hotel and airfare rates were then considered, avoiding outliers based on factors like travel limitations and security concerns. Prices are typical.
Being able to travel the globe doesn’t have to be impossible. Use a shrewd and astute strategy to travel to desired locations for (relatively) reasonable prices.
Houston, Texas
Houston is ranked as the cheapest travel destination in 2023, which is no surprise given that it is a significant travel center. Houston is less expensive to go there than most places, with a flight and hotel costing just $569, yet there is a ton lot do there. A favorite among visitors is the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
Toronto, Canada
You should include Toronto, a hip Canadian city, on your trip itinerary this year. The average cost of a trip and hotel is $577, so you can save your remaining funds for peameal bacon sandwiches from Carousel Bakery (or other delectable treats at St. Lawrence Market) or Hockey Hall of Fame tickets. Another excellent option is the lovely High Park, which is accessible without charge.
Denver, Colorado
Prices in the Mile High City are very low, averaging $593 for a flight and hotel. Denver offers it all, whether you like hiking, art, or hip downtown coffee shops. To experience one of the most unforgettable concerts of your life, attend a performance in the outdoor Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre.
Atlanta, Georgia
Atlanta offers all the benefits of a major city at a reduced cost, with a flight and hotel costing just $623. As a result, you’ll have more money to spend on attractions like the Georgia Aquarium or a trip on the SkyView Ferris wheel with views of Centennial Olympic Park. It’s also worthwhile to include a stop to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights to learn about local history.
Chicago, Illinois
Chicago’s summer season is unmatched, but the Windy City is also a lot of fun in the winter. Enjoy a day ice skating on the Maggie Daley Park Ice Skating Ribbon before warming up and refueling with a piece of deep-dish pizza from the neighborhood Giordano’s. With a $624 average for a trip and hotel, you’ll have enough money left over to see a Broadway performance or climb to the top of Skydeck Chicago in the Willis Tower.
New York City, New York
While New York City isn’t regarded for being an inexpensive destination, if you play your cards properly, you can get a trip and hotel for around $625. It may appear as if all roads go to New York with the number of flights into and out of the city, but there are really several routes and hotels to choose from, which is excellent news for your pocketbook. Do you want to increase your savings? Use T+L’s list of the top free activities in New York City to organize your day.
Dallas, Texas
You don’t have to spend much more than $630 to go to Dallas for a flight and hotel. To get the greatest deals, visit during the winter, and be sure to attend a Mavericks or Stars home game (hockey). The city also offers mouthwatering Tex-Mex at reasonable costs and excellent BBQ.
Orlando, Florida
A flight and hotel in Orlando may cost as little as $632, or as much as you’d want (imagine visiting all the Disney parks and staying in the fanciest hotels). Yet, it’s hard to believe, Orlando has a ton of fantastic free things to do.
Washington, D.C.
A trip to our country’s capital is essential. The cost of a trip and accommodation should be roughly $635, however several of our nation’s top museums and galleries, like the National Portrait Gallery and the Museum of Natural History, are open to the public without charge.
Portland, Oregon
If you want to go to Portland this year, budget $645 for travel and lodging. There are a ton of things to do in this hip, environmentally conscious city in the Pacific Northwest. At Washington Park, be sure to see the family-friendly Oregon Zoo and the elegant Japanese Garden. Spend the night at one of the city’s numerous warm hostels to stretch your travel budget.
Los Angeles, California
This year, don’t pass up La La Land; a flight and hotel should cost you approximately $657, and the rest of your travel cash may be used to eat at hip restaurants and drink at hip bars. Alternatively, for free sightseeing, take a walk along Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame or trek up to the Hollywood Sign.
San Antonio, Texas
Everything appears to be greater in Texas, even your potential savings, it would seem. Don’t worry about saving up too much extra cash since attractions like the San Antonio River Walk and Brackenridge Park are absolutely free. Instead, budget approximately $658 for a trip and lodging. Don’t forget to visit the Alamo Church, which is free to see but does need a timed admission reservation.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Sin City may not seem like an inexpensive destination, and when you start scheduling performances and events like Area15, costs can surely mount up fast. Although we can’t control what you do at the casino, at least your airfare and hotel won’t be a significant issue at $658. Also, if you want to keep your spending in line, check out some of the free activities in Las Vegas.
Mexico City, Mexico
Mexico City is the second-cheapest foreign location on our list this year, with a trip and hotel costing just $696. Mexico City is worth a visit when the rates are on the lower end because of the amazing architecture, delicious food, walkable areas, and fantastic arts and cultural scene. A helpful resource is T+L’s list of the top things to do in Mexico City.
Vancouver, Canada
Vancouver, a stunning coastal city, should be on your list of places to visit this year. This beautiful and varied treasure of western Canada has Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium, and a bustling art, theater, and music scene, among other attractions. For your airfare and accommodation, budget roughly $754.
Montreal, Canada
At an average cost of $763 for an airfare and hotel this year, another Canadian city tops the list of the most cost-effective destinations. Visitors may anticipate a variety of districts, from French colonial to bohemian, as well as must-see attractions like the Jean Talon Market and Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal. Make a trip in Montreal this year if you like fine dining, gorgeous architecture, and riverfront towns.
Cartagena, Colombia
Even the weariest of tourists will be revived by Cartagena’s endless energy, and at $792 for a flight and a hotel, the costs aren’t too terrible either. There are beautiful beaches to explore, a walled Old Town from the 16th century, and gorgeous structures in this port city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
You may land in one of America’s most tropical regions after a quick trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Between the beautiful Spanish colonial structures of Old San Juan and the majestic Castle San Felipe del Morro, which dates back to the 1500s, are cobblestoned lanes. Even yet, it only takes around 45 minutes to go from the beach to the forest if you prefer the beauties of nature over man-made structures. The combined cost of a flight and hotel should be around $832.
